Expect us to be playing Al Jazira in a pre-season friendly next year!

Re: Lanzini
Cheers, thanks Trevor, interesting.... as the article says it was a high risk move, glad it paid off for him (and us!!).

from what I've read/heard the fee is more like £8m, and that won't be including any add-ons, so they will make a profit, but I doubt that making a big profit is really on the mind of clubs in and UAE mate. Lanzini may have asked to leave, there may have been an agreement to let him go after a season if a bid etc of a certain fee comes in. Nobody knows mate, but it seems that he went there because they bid about twice as much as anyone else and paid him 7 time his salary at river plate.

Zarate did it too (signed for Al-Sadd from his first club Velaz Sarsfield)

Re: Lanzini
Still doesn't make sense though.... if we are (supposedly) able to get him for around 7m then Al Jazira can't have paid more than 5m.... surely they are making a profit?

If it was only 5m then that doesn't seem too high for a young established player and U20 Argentine international.

Obviously Al Jazira didn't really want / need him otherwise why bomb him out on loan after one season?

Although I can see the Italian passport making all the difference if that is a new development.... but even then surely he would have got one of those earlier if he was entitled to one.

simple, they offered more money. in cases like this often their commercial rights are owned by family/agents/investors and he may have had little choice. bilic wanted to sign him for besiktas last year and we were looking at him before he went to the middle east apparently.

Re: Lanzini
Something very odd about all this if you ask me.... how does a young player play 84 times for the biggest club in Argentina, playing in front of 60,000 every week before the age of 21 and then move to Al Jazira in the Middle East and play in front of a man and his dog.

We picked him up, but there doesn't seem to have been a horde of other clubs interested. Do other young South Americans do this?? Seems unlikely otherwise you would have heard of loads of other young players following the same route.

Young Lanzini doesn't seem the sort to be just after the money.... anyway, bloody good job Super Slav seemed to know what was going on!

Re: Lanzini
Lanzini wasn't "unknown", his transfer to Al Jazira was just a matter of money, his price tag was too high for a 21 years old and at that time I think he was still waiting for the italian passport.
But he was on the list of the best young players that Don balon issued in 2012

Re: Lanzini
To be honest, the way our midfield is shaping up, why would he want to leave. He is growing in confidence and playing better game by game. Any sense, he will stay.

Re: Lanzini
If another chairman wants to turn his head with cash it doesn't matter if he's signed for us or not.

Let's keep him keen ad paying for a deal... not like we've ever been suckered in before by a player playing out of his skin on loan then putting his feet up when signed (Schemmel, Ilunga...)

All depends whether we have a pre agreed option to buy, which we should do. It'd then only be personal terms that could scupper a deal

Should get him sorted on a permanent contract asap.

Longer he plays like this the more likely bigger clubs will be sniffing around.
